![]() ![]() Step 1 - Enable the Windows Subsystem for Linux If you run into an issue during the install process, check the installation section of the troubleshooting guide. ![]() We have included the manual installation steps below. I've seen some people take notes on a note pad and literally tape the appropriate screws to each item's note. For simplicity, we generally recommend using the wsl -install to install Windows Subsystem for Linux, but if you're running an older build of Windows, that may not be supported. So it's a good idea to use some type of small containers with a note for each that tells you which component the screws belong to. Also, most things you take screws out of prefer to have those same screws used to put it back into whatever you're replacing. The exception is if you haven't used the computer in a long time as the energy will naturally dissipate on its own, given enough time. AFTER doing this you can get into the case safely. There can be enough residual electricity left in the power supply to kill a person if you touch it wrong. After unplugging all the cables - before you get into the case - push and hold the power button for up to 10 seconds to expel any remaining charge in the power supply. Get an ESD strap and greatly reduce your chance of electrostatic discharge frying something else you don't want to be forced to replace. Handling opened electronics on carpet is NEVER a good idea. Please refer to the pictures if you are confused! Just like the other one, slide it towards the back of the computer. Start with the left side panel (the side that once had the knobs), slide it towards the back of the computer. Once the screws are removed, you can remove the side panels. The left side has small screws because on that side you can't access much on the inside. On most computer cases, there will be large knobs that you can unscrew by hand or by screw driver on the back-right side of the computer. ![]() First off, unscrew the four screws on the back of the computer. This is so you don't shock your motherboard or other parts. NOTICE: If you are working on a carpet, about every five minuets touch something that is grounded (Sink faucet\pipe, wire coming from the ground part of a wall outlet). The carpet is better than tile, because screws and other small parts will roll around. ![]() Now that your computer is fully unplugged, move your PC to a clean work space, preferably a carpet. ![]()
